Treasure Hunt Party Game

As a change from running a Treasure Hunt - here is a great party game for adults or grown-ups. Follow the links for other party games to entertain your guests - whatever their age:

Wilful Murder

Count your players, and cut up a sheet of paper, with one small piece of paper for each guest. Leave all but two blank, and on one of these write “Murderer” and on the other “Detective”.

Shuffle the pieces of paper in a hat, turn down the lights and gather the players around the hat. In turn they must take one piece of paper from the hat. Tell your players that no one must divulge the contents of their paper, except the detective.

The detective is then isolated in another room away from the other players. For the next few minutes, the players can move about in between rooms and hallways, each looking out for whom they suspect the murderer might be.

The murderer must choose his victim and commit the deed, by placing a hand on the victim’s shoulder and whispering “You’re dead”. The victim lets out a shriek, and falls to the floor. On hearing the shriek, all players, except the murderer must remain still. The murderer can continue to move, but must do so quickly. The hostess counts to 30, then turns up the lights and releases the detective.

The detective can survey where the players are in relation to the victim, then call them around him as he asks questions. It is a strict rule that everyone must answer truthfully, except the murderer who can answer as he/she pleases. Players may only be asked questions relating to their own actions, not the actions of others. The victim cannot be questioned.

The detective is given 10 minutes to survey the scene and ask questions, then he/she must accuse the murderer. If correct, they should win a small prize.
